A Chinese classic. Zong Zi is glutinous rice wrapped in layers of bamboo leaves that's then boiled until the rice is cooked and the fragrance and subtle flavour of the bamboo leaves seeps into the rice.
It come with various fillings, this one has the mung bean, marinated chicken (halal) and shiitake mushroom filling.
Perfect lunch along side with some sambal or chilli oil.
Freezable and perfect for gifting (lunar new year is coming soon *wink wink* )
To eat: bring the zong zi in chill temperature and steam for 15-20 minutes. Alternatively you can microwave it for 1-3 minutes on highest heat.
Please note that these halal zong zi are cooked and prepared separately from other version of zong zi.
So just in case you are wondering why these seasonal, well these are actually prepared by Rob's parents whom are extremely good at wrapping the zong (they have been wrapping for over 30++ years). Rob's dad is currently staying at home due to the lockdown. We are still following covid-19 rules and guidelines, so although we can't visit them but they are still be able to drop the zongs to us for the packing.
